What Are The First Steps To Getting Healthy?

Last Update: September 28, 2022

Making the decision to change your life and get healthy can be an immensely difficult one. Once you’ve made that decision, though, another question awaits: Where do you start?

We hear this same question all the time from Thrivers. And frankly, it’s something that isn’t always easy to answer. We asked our resident nutritionist and juicing expert Elissa Goodman what she recommends to her clients and friends on the road to getting healthy.

I’m just starting to change my eating and overhaul my nutrition. What are the first steps I should take?

When you overwhelm yourself and overcommit, that’s when change becomes unsustainable.  When you commit to changing one small thing a day, change becomes manageable and exciting! I always suggest starting with these three things first.

1. Invest in a good probiotic and take it every day first thing in the morning. This will help with the following: immune support, digestion, weight management, and overall health. I suggest Renew Life.

2. Add a simple green juice every day. I suggest romaine (romaine is packed with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber), celery, cucumber, lemon, and apple as a basic green juice.  Make sure it’s 90 percent veggies with very little fruit. Green juices are inexpensive to make and provide you with a tremendous amount of nutrients.

3. Limit your sugar intake (women should eat no more than 24 to 26 grams per day, and men no more than 34 to 36 grams per day). Refined sugar is incredibly harmful, for this reason I recommend 100 percent pure, natural Stevia with no fillers as an alternative. It has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries to have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, helps lower blood pressure, and helps blood sugar levels.
